1930 Antique Jean Painlevé Art Deco Bakelite and Brass Seahorses French Bracelet
An exceptional piece of early 20th-century jewelry design, this 1930s Art Deco cuff bracelet captures the avant-garde spirit of French surrealist filmmaker and designer Jean Painlevé. Crafted from deep black Galalith/Bakelite paired with warm, heavy brass, the open-cuff silhouette features bold architectural terminals end-capped with ribbed metallic cylinders. At the front, high-relief gilded seahorses anchor the design, showcasing intricately detailed textured scales, fins, and curved tails set against the smooth, polished dark synthetic base. The structured band opens into an easy-wear cuff design with a slight natural spring to accommodate the wrist. The inner brass band displays an authentic vintage patina, light surface wear, and a subtle stamped mark consistent with its age and historical production. Beautifully preserved with light age-appropriate character to the metal finish.
