W.M.F. Art Deco Oval Tray Made in Germany, circa 1930
Graceful and elegant Art Deco oval tray in silver plate. The border is printed with a light geometric decoration interspersed with delicate stylized roses. The part between the border and the top of the tray is embellished with fine embossed fluted decoration. The maker marks stamped on the tray are of the important factory W.M.F. (Wurttembergische Metallwaren Fabrik) founded in 1853 in Geislingen in Germany. One of these mark indicates us that the thickness of silver plating is exactly one gram of deposited silver spread over an area of one square decimeter. The tray is a beautiful example of Art Deco. Similar products can be admired in the interesting W.M.F.catalogue dated 1906 "Art Nouveau Domestic Metalwork". Width 59 cm, depth 29 cm, height 2 cm.
